  • Bond was lowered to $500,000 this morning for a Massillon man charged in the Aug. 4 shooting death of his wife at Akron General Medical Center.
Summit County Common Pleas Chief Magistrate Matthew Dickinson granted the reduction in bond during the arraignment of John Wise, 66, of 227 Hawthorne Ave. NE. Defense attorney Paul Adamson asked the magistrate to consider reducing the bond to $250,000. Dickinson, however, followed the recommendation of the court’s pre-trial release program. Wise would have to post 10 percent, or $50,000, of the total bond amount in order to be released. If bond is posted, Wise would be placed on electronically monitored house arrest. (Information has been changed to correct an error at 1:45 p.m. 8/24/12. See correction at end of story.)
Adamson entered not guilty pleas on behalf of Wise, who appeared via video from the Summit County Jail, to charges of aggravated murder, murder and felonious assault.
Wise is accused of shooting his wife, Barbara Wise, 65, at least once in the head after walking into the hospital's intensive care unit around 8:45 p.m. Aug. 4. She died the next day. Barbara Wise had been hospitalized for a week after reportedly suffering a triple brain aneurysm.
