  • Buehler’s bidding to buy Green IGA store

  • Buehler’s Fresh Foods hopes to add another area store. The company said it is negotiating to buy the Portage Lakes IGA store in Green.

  • Wooster-based Buehler’s Fresh Foods said Friday that it hopes to add a store in Green.
    Buehler’s officials said they are working toward buying the Portage Lakes IGA at 4045 S. Main St.
    Dan Shanahan, chief operating officer for Buehler’s, said the company expects to complete the deal by the end of July and issue a formal announcement in August. Shanahan said Buehler’s officials look forward to meeting Portage Lakes store employees next week.
    Bill Anthony, owner of Portage Lakes IGA, said “customers will see no changes in the store’s hours or offerings while the sale of our store to Buehler’s is being finalized.”
    The Buehler’s Fresh Foods chain of grocery stores is owned and operated by E&H Family Group. The company has a store in Jackson Township, as well as Wooster, Orrville, Wadsworth, Medina, Brunswick, Ashland, New Philadelphia, Dover, Delaware and Coshocton.
    E&H Family Group also owns ACE Hardware stores in Jackson Township, New Philadelphia, Dover, Orrville, Delaware, Medina, Independence, Rocky River, Westlake and Middlefield. The company plans to open an ACE Hardware store in Oberlin this summer.
