During its regular meeting June 17, Lakemore Council Members signed a proclamation stating, “The Village of Lakemore Council proclaims the alumni class pictures displayed at Springfield High school are important references to the history of the Springfield Local School system, the Village of Lakemore and Springfield Township.”
The document also stated that retaining positive community relations and continuing traditions practiced is important to the residents of a community who have supported the progress of the Springfield Locals Schools.
By signing the document, the trustees, as representatives of Lakemore, ensure that residents’ concerns are addressed appropriately.
“Securing the history for the community has become a concern,” the document reads. “Ensuring the continuation of the traditional time honored display of the history exemplifies the importance and cohesiveness of a community.”
“We talked about this at our last workshop,” Mayor Rick Justice said of the proclamation. “We have talked to so many citizens on this and it seemed like it was only natural thing to do.”
The proclamation will be given the Springfield Local Board of which has been debating whether or not display graduation class photos in the new high school building. Currently, the board is discussing digitizing the photos and displaying them online.
Members of the community and alumni have been asking for the board to reconsider hanging the pictures as a part of history in the school in conjunction with the digital computer display.
