  • Annual farmer’s markets bloom in Green, Jackson

  • Both Green and Jackson Township will host farmers’ markets this season.


     


    Beginning June 19 through Oct. 9, the City of Green will host its seasonal farmer’s market each Tuesday. Before Labor Day hours are 3 to 7 p.m. From Sept. 4 through Oct. 9  market hours will be from 3-6 p.m.

    Beginning June 19 through Oct. 9, the City of Green will host its seasonal farmer’s market each Tuesday. Before Labor Day hours are 3 to 7 p.m. From Sept. 4 through Oct. 9  market hours will be from 3-6 p.m.
    In its fourth year, the farmer’s market will be at 3838 Massillon Road, in the parking lot of Summa Health System and the Green Family YMCA, rain or shine. The market is canceled when severe weather alerts are issued, Kim Goodhart, spokeswoman for the Green Parks and Recreation department, said.
    “Our first year, we were at Boettler Park, and although it was a beautiful setting, we didn’t have the customer base, so we made the decision to move it to the Summa parking lot. This will be our third year there,” Goodhart said.
    Vendors at this year’s farmer’s market include: Bittnerbees, Brenckle Farms, Earth Fare, Hattie’s Cafe & Gifts, Hawk Natural Meats, Kendee Candles, Marvin’s Gardens, Master Gardeners of Summit County, May’s Produce, Mazzocca Greenhouse, Noon Sharpening, Orangewood Bake Shop, Our Daily Bread, Rainbow Gardens, Snyder’s Orchard, The Pierogie Lady and Walnut Drive Gardens.
    The Jackson Township Park farmer’s market will be each Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. will host its farmer’s market at 7660 Fulton Dr., in North Park across from Jackson High School.
    The weekly market will run through Sept. 27. The market is canceled June 28 for the  Jackson Community Celebration that day at the same location.
    Jackson’s market  includes a dozen vendors from Canton and surrounding communities.
    “It’s rain or shine, except for severe weather. We’ve only had to cancel one market, so we’ve lucked out,” said Mary Reno, administrative assistant for the Jackson Township Board of Trustees.
    This year’s vendors include: Aunt Lula’s, with quick breads, cakes, cookies and Greek pastries; Camp Tuscazoar, with maple syrup and honey; Fox Family Farm, with fruit, vegetables, herbs, preserves, flowers and baked goods; Hazel Artisan Bakery, with bread, cookies and pastry; Hillside Produce, with fruit, vegetables and fried pies; Maize Valley Farms, with fruit, vegetables, herbs, maple syrup and preserves; Marvin’s Gardens, with freshly cut flowers; Miller Truck Patch, with fruit, vegetables, plants and flowers; Orangewood Bake Shop, with ethnic baked goods, jams and Italian spice packets; Sassy Delight, with flavored hard candy; Sisters Scented Candles, with soy candles and cream; and Woolf Farms, with berries, peaches, corn and other vegetables.
    There is free parking available; vendors will be set up in the grassy area of the green walking track.
