Eric Snow YMCA takes over management and operations of the Canton Youth Football League.
The Eric Snow YMCA is taking over management and operations of the Canton Youth Football League. The league, entering its fifth year of operation, is for youth entering grades 3–6. Last year, the league featured more than 300 players.
“We are pleased to welcome the Canton Youth Football League into our family of YMCA programs,” Community Program Director Michael T. Brown said in a statement. “Quite simply, this will allow us to serve more youth and families, and, hopefully, help grow an already strong program.”
In the past, the YMCA only offered flag football for youth in grades 1-4. With the acquisition of the Canton Youth Football League, flag football will still exist for students entering grades 1-2, while tackle football will serve grades 3–6.
“We are located in the heart of the football universe, ” Brown said. “We had toyed around with the idea of starting a tackle football program in the past, but didn’t feel that the timing was right. But, now, with all the excitement around the new YMCA project in downtown Canton and a program that was well organized and actually wanted to be a part of our family, we felt the timing was perfect.”
Registration for the league is in progress. The registration fee is $55 for members of the YMCA and $65 for non-members. Need-based financial assistance is available through the support of the United Way of Greater Stark County and the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. Registration forms can be picked up and payments will be accepted at the Southeast Community Center, 1400 Sherrick Road SE, or payment can be made online at www.ymcastark.org.
