Actor Randy Quaid's request for permanent residency status in Canada has been denied by Canadian immigration officials, The Associated Press reports.

Quaid and his wife, Evi, filed for refugee status in Canada after being arrested in Vancouver in 2010 on U.S. warrants. They were charged with felony vandalism after allegedly squatting illegally at a home in Montecito, Calif. and causing more than $5,000 worth of damage there.

In requesting to stay in Canada permanently, the actor claimed he was being chased by "Hollywood star-whackers" who he said were also responsible for the deaths of Heath Ledger and David Carradine.

U.S. officials have said they will not pursue extradition of the Quaids, but will arrest them if they return to the United States.
