For the third time in three weeks, the Rev. Walter Moss found himself at a vigil praying for murder victims. Thursday’s vigil was for Margaret Eakin and her grandchildren, Macy and James Mammone IV. Police have charged James Mammone III, father of the two children, with aggravated murder in each of the killings, which happened Monday. The deaths come on the heels of another triple homicide May 27 and a fatal shooting May 21.
One year ago, James Mammone III threatened to send his wife to her grave. Marcia Mammone is alive today, but her two young children are dead, police believe, at the hands of their father. James Mammone also is accused of killing his former mother-in-law, Margaret J. Eakin.

Interim Superintendent Linda Martin detailed the cuts that needed to be taken due to the levy defeat and the loss of revenue: for the teaching staff nine full time teachers and nine part-time teachers would be cut. In the classified areas, five tutors, five monitors, and 14.5 administrative/ secretarial positions would be eliminated. For the administrative staff, four positions would either be eliminated or combined. Part of the reduction in cost will also be through incentive retirement over the next two years for two administrators and 13 teachers.
The Jackson Township family was on a trip to Florida when their five-month-old daughter started to vomit. They caught an emergency flight home and Jayani was admitted to the hospital with what turned out to be a brain tumor.
