2009 green middle school track goes undefeated for the fourth consecutive year

The Green Middle School Boys’ Track Team continued its tradition of excellence during the 2009 season.

The record for the team, in dual meets over the last 18 years, is now 124-5-1. This includes three consecutive undefeated seasons: 1988, 1999 and 2000, and now four consecutive seasons 2006, 2007 and 2008 as well as 13 undefeated seasons overall. This year’s team was able to achieve yet another great season with a record of 7-0 for the fourth straight undefeated season and the 18th straight Suburban League title.

Ed Janini was this year’s standout performer in the mile with his best time of 5:06. Their top mile runners this season along with Ed were Keith Genetin, Adam Haines, Kevin Bayonnet, Griffen Jenkins, Nat Donaldson and Josh Bartley. Their best times respectively were 5:14, 5:23, 5:27, 5:30, 5:47 and 5:56. The 800 meter runners were also very talented this season with their best time turned in by Nathan Tepus with a personal best time of 2:18. Ed Janini along with Keith Genetin, also turned in personal best times of 2:22 and 2:28 respectively.

The speed in the 100, 200 and 400 meters many times overpowered our oponents, said Coach Darrel Linton. Zach and Seth Wieland along with Jacob Onusic, Nathan Tepus, Jamie Dawson and Patric Latimer would many times take first, second and third places in the 100, 200 and 400 meters. Their best times in the 100 meters were turned in by Seth Wieland and Jacob Onusic with times of 11.5 and 11.8 respectively. The team’s best times in the 400 meters were turned in by Seth Wieland, Nathan Tepus and Pat Latimer with times of 56.6, 57.4 and 59 seconds respectively. Jacob Onusec, Tanner Vinciguerra and Tourja Joya many times took first, second and third palces in the 110 and 200 meter hurdles.

In the jumping events, high jump and long jump, the team’s best performances were 5-feet, 5-inches and 5-feet, 4 inches in the high jump by Casey Perch and Nick Reale. In the long jump, Brad Kitchen, Tanner Vinciguerra, Nick Reale, Nathan Tepus and Drew Shultz had jumps of 17-feet, 4-inches, 16-feet, 9-inches, 16-feet, 7-inches, 16-feet, 4 inches and 16-feet, 1-inche respectively.

In the strength events, shot and discu, Dan Mahaney, Pat Latimer, Alex Yost and Joey Tricaso made great improvements in the shot during the season. Dan’s best throw was 42-feet, 5-inches while Pat’s was 41-feet, 5-inches. In the discus event, Keegan Dare, Brian Wisor, Mark Dahlman and Tariq Dameh had throws more than 100 feet. Keegan’s best throw was 122-feet, 10-inches while Brian’s best was 115-feet, 4 inches.

There were three school records set this season. Casey Perch set a new seventh grade school record in the high jump with an outstanding effort of 5-feet, 5-inches breaking the old record of 5-feet, 4-inches. The 4x100 and the 4x400 relay teams of Seth and Zack Wieland, Jacob Onusic, Nathan Tepus and Jamie Dawson set new school records with times of 46.98 seconds and 3:49 respectively.

Thanks goes to all parents that helped students participate in track through rides and other means of support. Linton thanks their satiations Ashley Cosher and Kelsey Jones. The coaches, Linton, Joe Trizzino and Dan Huff, have enjoyed this group and look forward to continuing their positive experience with the athletes with hope that their success continues.

A very special thanks goes to retired coach Frank Yoskey and former GMS track athlete Eric Shipe for their volunteered help in the field events.
