Runs were scarce as Akron's Chuck Lofgren and Altoona's Joshua Hill threw zeros on the board at Canal Park. Lofgren flinched first, and the Aeros could not respond, falling 3-1. The Aeros and Curve are now both 13-18.
Tuesday
Altoona 3, Akron 1
W: Hill (3-2) L: Lofgren (1-3) SV: Hernandez (2)
Keys to the Game:
Chuck Lofgren, after struggling in April with a 8.24 ERA in five starts, has settled down and pitched seven strong innings of one run baseball, striking out seven in the loss.
The Curve's Joshua Hill pitched just a little better than Lofgren, throwing six shutout innings of five-hit ball, striking out eight.
Altoona's Anthony Webster provided what would be the game winning runs when he laced a two-run single up the middle in the top of the eighth.
Aeros third baseman Wes Hodges drove in the only run of the night with a fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth.
Up Next:
The Aeros will settle their rubber match with the Curve Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Akron left-hander David Huff (1-1, 2.78 ERA) will face off against Altoona's Corey Hamman (0-4, 5.28). Wednesday night is the 4-pack deal, featuring four tickets, four hot dogs, four chips and four sodas for $48. The game will be on 1350 AM and on akronaeros.com.
