Akron, Ohio -

Akron used home field advantage and their biggest crowd of the season to help propel them to 9-4 late inning rally over Altoona. The win snapped a three-game skid and improved Akron to 13-17, while the Curve dropped to 12-18.

Aeros 9, Curve 4

Keys to the game:
Trailing 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Aeros scored once off a Matt Whitney homer and then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth. The runs were scored on RBI hits by Chris Gimenez, Stephen Head, Brandon Pinckney and Jose Constanza.

Constanza led off the eighth with a base hit, making him the first Aero since May 25, 1999 to have two hits in an inning.

Although Aeros starter Kevin Dixon gave up three runs in the first three innings, he settled down and went six strong innings for his second quality start in a row.

Randy Newsom pitched a scoreless ninth to drop his ERA to 1.54 on the season.

Up Next:
Game two of the three-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday night. It will be Akron's Chuck Lofgren (1-2, 6.85 ERA) versus the Curve's Josh Hill (2-2, 3.33 ERA). It will be two-for-one Tuesday at Canal Park, with two-for-one deals on tickets and select concessions. It will be broadcast on 1350 AM and on akronaeros.com.
