Bev Clark believes true strength begins at your core and she believes in providing a stress-free workout atmosphere.
To achieve her goal, she opened Excelerated Fitness and Pilates the first week of January.
Located at 1120 W. Maple St. in Hartville (the former Christmas Shoppe of the Yankee Barn), Clark’s studio offers Pilates, Zumba, yoga, kickboxing and good old-fashioned aerobics. The studio offers 14 classes per week in Pilates, yoga, cardio and kickboxing. If classes are too intimidating, Excelerated Fitness and Pilates offers single and partner personal training sessions.
“I’ve been into nutrition since I was 12 years old,” said Clark, a certified instructor. “I didn’t start exercising until I was 20 or 21. I enjoyed walking.”
When Clark started having lower back problems, she enrolled in a Pilates class.
“I realized my back was stronger,” she said.
Pilates, developed by Joseph Pilates, is a gentle way to strengthen the torso, creating a strong "core," or center of the body.
“Pilates strengthens the torso muscles,” said Clark. “This area is the powerhouse. It’s what holds you up. Pilates gives you more strength.”
Yoga is a flexibility exercise program, said Clark.
“It’s a physical way to relieve tension and stress,” said Kim Kohler, a certified instructor at Excelerated Fitness and Pilates.
“We’re crunched up and bent over at a computer, driving or even texting,” said Clark. “Yoga helps with physical postures and breathing.”
Clark also offers the Get-Fit-Quick program, a four week class of two people or more. She said it’s geared for beginners to learn how to properly use dumbbells, bands, cables, body bars and medicine balls.
“I want this studio to be comfortable,” said Clark. “This is perfect for someone who is out of shape and they don’t want to go to a gym where a bunch of teens are staring at them.”
“A fitness program results in more confidence to a person and energy to the body,” said Kohler.
The studio hours are as flexible as yoga itself. The studio is open Mondays through Fridays, 7 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, 5 – 8 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment.
