COVENTRY TWP. The streak continues for Coventry football.
Another year, another Division I college commitment for the program, which has sent athletes such as Devon Jones (Akron), Bryce Hargrove (Pittsburgh) and Dusty Burkhart (Akron) to Division I colleges in recent seasons.
This time, it’s Associated Press First Team All-Ohio receiver and kick returner Treon Sibley, who will join Burkhart and Jones at Akron this fall. The Portage Trail Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Year thrived as a receiver, running back and kick returner for Coventry.
He scored 16 touchdowns - 10 rushing, four receiving and one each on kickoff and interception returns - and tallied 1,505 all-purpose yards as a senior. With 74 carries for 610 yards and 28 receptions for 529 yards, he was a dual threat on offense and on defense, he amassed 68 tackles, two interceptions, forced two fumbles and recovered one fumble.
He joins an Akron program coming off a Mid-American Conference East Division title and just the third bowl berth in the program’s Division I era. The 5’11-1/2 Sibley was recruited to Akron as an athlete and not at any specific position and plans to major in either business or sports medicine in college.
