JACKSON TWP. Jackson senior Colin Biros has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer at the University of Akron, joining a program fresh off an NCAA College Cup appearance.
Biros led the Polar Bears in scoring his freshman year and helped Jackson win a district championship and as a senior, he was named to the All-Federal League and All-Stark County first teams.
After his freshman season, Biros was a member of the Columbus Crew’s academy program and has been a leading scorer for the squad, helping it reach the academy playoffs the past two years.
Based on his play with the academy team, Biros was invited to train with the Crew’s senior team in Arizona last month as it prepared for the upcoming Major League Soccer season. He made two preseason scrimmage appearances and scored a goal in a 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders.
He joins an Akron program that won a national title in 2010 and has consistently been ranked in the top 10 in the country in recent seasons. Head coach Jared Embick and his staff have sent multiple players on to the professional level, including the top pick in last year’s MLS draft, defender Joao Moutinho.
