COVENTRY TWP. James Barte, a player Coventry head football coach Ed Egan described as "without a double the most improved athlete I have ever coached in a one-year time frame," has capitalized on that improvement to earn a chance to play college football for St. Vincent College.
Barte, a nose tackle, earned First Team All-Portage Trail Conference honors as a senior and also received Associated Press All-District recognition. He was part of a senior class that led the program to consecutive winning seasons, capped by an 8-2 mark this fall and a second-place finish in the PTC Metro Division.
For his signing, Barte was joined by his grandmother, along with members of the Coventry coaching staff. St. Vincent is an NCAA Division III school competing in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.
