• Behind 20 points by Rachel Rodenbucher, Springfield earned its first Portage Trail Conference girls basketball win of the season, downing Field 54-53. Taylor Kern also reached double figures with 10 points for the Spartans. Senior guard Madison Garner made the game-winning 3-pointer for Springfield with eight seconds remaining and Melissa Walsh blocked a field goal attempt in the closing seconds.

• Lake was chosen as the second seed in the upcoming Canton Division I boys basketball sectional and district tournament bracket. Federal League rival Jackson, whom Lake will face on Friday in a game that will help decide the league champion, received the top seed.

• Lukas Swartz scored 28 points and Kyle Coffman chipped in 16 points to power Mogadore to an 82-78 Portage Trail Conference victory.
