JACKSON TWP. What’s been all but signed, sealed and delivered became official earlier this month when Jackson senior basketball player Taylor Mikesell signed her letter of intent to attend the University of Maryland.

Mikesell, a starting guard for her entire varsity career, holds 14 school records at Jackson, including most career points (1,405), most career 3-point shots made (197) and best free throw percentage in a single season (88.7 percent).

She has played for USA Basketball as part of its Under-17 team, winning a bronze medal at the 2016 World Championship competition held in Spain.

She will join a Maryland program that has won 3 consecutive Big Ten championships and was the 2006 national champion. The Terrapins, ironically, will make a stop in Northeast Ohio in about two weeks, playing at the University of Akron on Dec. 2.

Mikesell is a 4.0 GPA student off the court and the 5-foot-10 senior was part of Jackson’s regional final run three years ago. She was joined for her signing ceremony by her father, Kevin Mikesell, mother Theresa Mikesell, and Jackson head girls basketball coach Anthony Butch.
