CANTON  The Malone University men’s golf team wrapped up its fall season late last month and local product Jarrod Kasunick (Central Catholic) earned individual event and Great Midwest Athletic Conference recognition for his efforts during the campaign.

Kasunick was named G-MAC Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week for his effort in helping the Pioneers to a first-place overall finish at the Phipps Memorial Tournament. Individually, the Pioneers had the top three finishers, led by Kasunick, who took home medalist honors after firing an even-par 71.

At the event, held at Brookside Country Club in Perry Township, Malone tallied a score of 300 to defeat Mount Union by 14 strokes. Kasunick captured first place by four strokes over teammates Jacob English and Kyle Barnett, who tied for second with scores of 75.

Kasunick’s round was best of the fall season and his third top-10 finish this year. A Great Midwest All-Conference selection this past spring, he placed third at the Malone Fall Classic on Sept. 8-9 and tied for ninth at the Great Midwest Fall Preview on Sept. 18-19.

As a team, the Pioneers placed either first or second in five of the six tournaments they competed in this fall.
