COVENTRY TWP. Brad Holmgren may have been late to running, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming the latest Coventry student-athlete to commit to play a sport at the college level.
Holmgren, who only started running cross country as a junior, is one of 10 Ohio athletes to commit to run cross country for Malone beginning this fall.
“We are very pleased to have such a large contingent of talented freshman join our team this fall,” legendary Malone head coach Jack Hazen said. “We are excited to have them help us continue Malone’s Long Red Line of excellence in distance running.”
Holmgren posted a time of 16:56.7 at the Portage Trail Conference championship meet to place sixth int the Metro Divisions last fall and set the school record in the 3,200-meter for track this spring, his one and only season on the team. He is part of a group of recruits that is heavily local, including athletes from Louisville, Smithville and Hoban.
