SPRINGFIELD TWP.  When Springfield senior Zak Williams dug in for his college search, there was one school that emerged as a clear best fit.

Williams, who has a 4.03 GPA and earned All-Portage Trail Conference honors in both soccer and bowling, liked what he saw when he visited the Walsh University campus in North Canton.

“It’s a friendly environment, close to home,” Williams said. “I enjoyed my visit (and) it’s a smaller college, so it feels very personal to me.”

At Walsh, Williams will play soccer, a sport in which he earned first-team All-PTC honors, as well as all-district and Summit County All-Star recognition. As a bowler, he was honorable mention all Ohio, second-team All-PTC and helped his team to a fifth-place finish in the state tournament. This spring, he’s wrapping up his high school athletic career as a member of the Springfield baseball team.

Off the field, he ranks among the top 25 in his class and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Academically at Walsh, Williams plans to major in accounting and business management. He’s looking forward to being able to travel while playing a sport he loves and after graduation, he plans to own his own accounting firm and focus on corporate accounting.
