HARTVILLE  The Lake Center Christian School Running Club will host its 6K for Water event May 6 at 9 a.m. on the school’s Hartville campus.

The event will raise funds for World Vision and its efforts to provide clean water in Third World countries all around the world. Cross country coach Dannon Stock is one of the event’s organizers and noted that the race is connected to many of the young runners who aren’t yet old enough to compete at the high school level.

“Many of our students in grades three through six are involved in the running club at our school,” Stock said. “One component of this program is service based (and) therefore partnering with World Vision was a good fit.”

According to Stock, the 6K distance was chosen in contrast to the typical 5K races that many organizations and causes hold throughout the year because six kilometers represents the average distance a child walks in many Third World each way to get clean water on a daily basis.

As part of the event, the running club will be promoting World Vision, child sponsorship and the idea of helping children in need. The cost of the run is $25 for children and $50 for adults and registration ends May 6.

Each participant will receive a shirt and bib with the image of a child that they have helped to receive clean water. Some of the school’s runners from higher grade levels will also be volunteering at the event, along with several families. More information on the event and registration details are available at teamworldvision.org/team/LakeCenterChristianSchool.
