General RV has grown significantly in the 10 years the company has been in business.
Sales Manager Tim Nicholson said the company does a little of everything, including sales, parts, service and rentals.
Nicholson said they stock 600 and 700 units, ranging from motor homes, travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers and pop-up campers. Selecting the right RV or motor home is important, he said, and his team helps customers meet their needs. He likes to sit down with potential buyers and see what they plan to use it for and discuss their budget.
"We sell fun," Nicholson said. "People come here because they want (an RV), not because they need one."
The company serves young families and those who have retired.
"I always tell families with children," Nicholson said, "if they buy one, they will no longer hear three things: 'Are we there yet?' 'I have to go' and 'I’m hungry.'"
Being located near Interstate 77 has been critical to the company's growth.
"Being right off the freeway gives people easy access," Nicholson said. "There is lots to look at along the freeway when you drive by."
Nicholson said being so close to the airport helps because customers often purchase online, fly in and drive the RV or motor home back home.
Over the 10 years in business, he said, the company has grown from 24 employees to 190.
"Growth is the only way to meet customers' demands," Nicholson said.
He and Joe Weider opened the business, which started in one building. The building underwent a renovation before the company decided to expand across the street and construct a service center.
The service center saw an addition put on last year with another in the works. Nicholson said the company does a lot of insurance work on motor homes and RVs as they have a full service center and paint booth.
He said General RV sells the most motor homes in Ohio and operates 12 stores in six states. The airport location anticipates delivering 2,400 RVs this year.
"There has been a big increase the last few years," Nicholson said. "The economy is good, unemployment is down and people have more money to spend."
