The Lake Township CROP Walk will be Sunday, April 27, starting at 2 p.m. in Hartville Memorial Park. Huntington Bank is donating bottled water for the walkers en route.

Hartville Hardware is loaning their popcorn machine, so fresh popcorn can be served to CROP Walk participants. McDonald’s is donating drinks for everyone who finishes the walk. Our walkers and joggers will be well cared for, hydrated, and comfortable.

Many people in the world are not so fortunate. These are Angolan villages with no wells and no other source of clean drinking water. Villagers must walk for miles each day to collect the water they need. There are Cambodian farmers with no seeds to plant. They have no food to eat. There are American families living below the poverty line. They have no money for food. Mild hunger causes discomfort. Prolonged hunger causes serious illness, including brain damage in children, and eventual death.

The goal of our local CROP Walk is to raise community awareness and money to fight world hunger. People have already made teh commitment to be CROP Walk volunteers and walkers from nine area churches. Preresentatives from Cornerstone Mennonite, east Nimishillen Church of the Brethren, Grace United Church of Christ, Hartville Mennonite, Holy Spirit Catholic, Maple Grove Mennonite, St. Jacob’s Lutheran, Solid Rock Fellowship and Uniontown United Methodist will participate in the Lake CROP Walk.

More churches, groups and individual walkers are welcome.

Take a half-mile stroll, a three-mile walk, or a six mile hike through Hartville Memorial Park and the surrounding neighborhoods on Sunday afternoon. Come at 2 p.m. to register and put on your walking shoes. If you are not a walker, be a sponsor. You can donate money online anytime through www.CROPWALK.org. T
