These past couple of days the news media has reflected on the passing of one of the greatest political journalists in recent times, Tim Russert.  Without question, Tim Russert embodied the best in journalism, and sought to bring accountability and truth to the political process. Conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat, we all respect truth, honest and civil debate, and a genuine love for this great country. While I never met Tim Russert I can see from the interviews of Tim, his father, Big Russ, and even Tim’s son, Luke, that simple traits of commitment to faith, family, and country, were passed down from father to son. Such traits are admired and revered by all, regardless of political party. That is why Tim Russert was known as “tough but fair” by political leaders of both parties.

I cannot help but see these same admirable qualities in my support of Todd Snitchler for Ohio State Representative for the 50th District.  While I come from a different political party than Todd, we come from a similar upbringing, where faith, family, and country are the most important things in life.  I believe that Todd’s role in Columbus will be to restore respect in the political process, and provide a common sense approach to government that transcends political gamesmanship, and instead, looks for the big picture.  Too often, even when we have major issues to tackle in this state (e.g. job loss, foreclosure problems, school funding), our political leaders do not want to look across the aisle for support and consensus.  Todd will bring a fresh and healthy perspective to Columbus.  Todd is a committed husband, father, son, and citizen.  I am proud to lend my support to Todd’s candidacy as I believe in supporting the best person for the job.  Because in the end, as Tim Russert’s legacy will show, it’s how you lead your life that matters most.
