After reading the Dec. 4 article about a study of the Killian Rd. and South Main St. intersection. I can save the county the $27K and say that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the problem.
I am sure that everybody that travels S.Main St at rush hour would agree that the problem is that the traffic lights do not work to keep traffic flowing. If you catch the light at Portage lakes Dr. you will almost every time catch every light clear to Nimasilla Rd.
When S. Main was re-done several years ago and the traffic lights were added at Killian and Moore Rd, I knew that would wind up being a traffic nightmare just as with the case with Manchester Rd. It seems that the easy answer is to put up a traffic light. Now 2 more are being looked into on Manchester Rd. All these lights do is cause a cascading effect of long lines by the time you get to Rt.619. Also the intersection of S. Main and 619 should have the right lane changed to a right only. Because impatient people try to get around the straight thru lane and cause a slow down just past Shaffer's Market.
Synchronize the traffic lights and the problem should be solved. Has for the Killian Rd intersection, It seems to be pretty straight forward. Maybe people need to put the cell phones down and pay attention to their driving. You would be amazed at how smoothly driving would be if everybody payed attention.
