Put down the cell phone
I have lived in Portage Lakes all of my life.My dad and uncle were even in the volunteer fire department in New Franklin (formally Franklin Township) Since that time I have moved to Coventry Township. I am living in Kiwanis Tower. In my apartment I have a good view of the road. I hear the Sirens from Coventry Fire Department coming down the road. Well, if I can hear them and see them, you would think the people driving on the road could see them and would pull over. I stood at the window the other day yelling at people to get off the road. They just stay there and wait until the last minute to pull over.
Quit using the phone or what ever you are doing and pay attention.
The law has not changed, we yield to emergency vehicles.
Think of it this way: What if it was a member of your family they were going to help? This person could be dying.
Think about it. Do it. Pull over and let them do their jobs.

Library friends thank community
The Friends of the Library, Portage Lakes Branch, would like to thank the community for supporting its Spring Book Sale on April 19 and 21. In this world of diverse electronic media, it is gratifying to see a continued enthusiastic interest in books. The money raised in the book sales goes toward programs and other materials needed by the Portage Lakes Branch Library.
The book sale is successful because of the work of our dedicated Friends of the Library volunteers. We encourage people with an interest in books and a fondness for the Portage Lakes Branch Library to join our Friends group and help with our activities. They can pick up an application at the library or call me at 330-645-0014.
Our Fall Book Sale is Thursday, Sept. 27 (Friends members only) and Saturday, Sept. 29. Put it on your calendar and come stock up on books for your winter’s reading.

Suburbanite no place for bad news
I am writing to you about a column printed in the April 6, 2012 Suburbanite about Christy Gossett. I have included a copy.
I feel this printing is cruel, inappropriate and unwarrantable. Consider the children who will read this, as well as others.
You seem to be trying to have an upbeat publication. In the future, please leave the dissemination of this type of information to others.
Roland Ledoux
Canton
(Editor’s note: The writer is referring to a news story that appeared in print and online versions about the blood alcohol level of Gossett, who died in an automobile crash.)
