This time, I'm asking the reader to indulge me as I expound on the many virtues of my own home church. Cornerstone Free Methodist Church resides at 578 Killian Rd., between Arlington Road and South Main Street. Cornerstone Church is first and foremost a Bible-centered entity, with a strong family-oriented emphasis.

Our pastor is Brenda Young. Anyone who may be uncomfortable with the thought of a female preacher need only talk with here once to convince themselves that this particular aspect is a non-issue. God calls whomever He will to His service.

Beside providing a solid platform for your walk with God, support is offered during all of life's many trials. Death of loved ones, illnesses, financial problems and the agony of divorce are all included in our care system. On a lighter note, picnics, dinners, outings and softball are some of the many events that are often held here. For the teens we have "Club Meltdown," a high energy late-night affair with live music, games, food and fun. Not to mention the companionship of other teens. For young adults and older parishioners, the once-a-month event, "Seven" experience awaits.

The rock band "Providence" dominates the picture here with live music. Comedy and singing is also on the agenda as the participants while away the evening and "gather themselves as the Good Book recommends.

For our Biker readers out there, can I suggest that you look into the "Righteous Riders" Motorcycle Club that uses us as a base of operations? This is a group of highly motivated Christian Bikers that maintain their biker lifestyle, while holding onto God's hand and living a righteous life.

You really should be there to witness the yearly Easter egg hunt. Picture this: a two-acre lawn of closely cropped grass upon which 18,000 multicolored eggs have been strewn, looking like so many psychedelic dandelions, then at a given signal, more than 200 kids form a human wave and sweep over the area like a vacuum cleaner with an attitude, leaving no trace of any of the afore-mentioned eggs.

There are periodic dinners held for couples and summer camp for kids, plus retreats for men and women. AA and "Divorce Care" support groups are a standard feature here.
If you're seeking a church you can feel welcome at and grow spiritually with, give Cornerstone a try. Call 330-644-3937. We have a seat waiting for you.
