Springfield TWP, Ohio —
Vince Mealy, a former Springfield Township trustees and an avid supporter of Springfield Schools, passed away Dec. 15, following a battle with leukemia.
Mealy, 49, was born Nov. 28, 1961 and he was a life long resident of Springfield Township.
A graduate of Springfield High School, Mealy earned a masters degree from the University of Akron. He was director of the Green YMCA and the Lake Anna YMCA in Barberton.
Mealy served as a township trustee from 2006-2009. He was instrumental in forming a Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
He leaves behind his wife of almost 20 years, Janet, three children, Rachel, Maria and Jared and his mother, Alberta “Bertie” Mealy.
Funeral mass is at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton St., Akron, Dec. 20, at noon.Newcomer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (330-784-3334).
