Do you have balls? Well your student athletes sure do! Soccer balls, tennis balls, basketballs, footballs and golf balls as well as uniforms, trophies, and much, much more. Who provides these? Green All Sports Booster Club.
I am a parent of a freshman athlete who participates in several sports and I attended several Booster Club meetings this past year. I was amazed at the amount of money, time and energy this small but dedicated group gives to our children at both the High School and Middle School level.
I had always believed that my tax dollars provided for all of the necessities of our athletes. However, I found out that Green All Sports Boosters also gives money for entry fees, travel expenses, athlete meals, ceremonies, banquets and other special events throughout the school year.
This year alone they have generously given approximately $57,000 toward our athletic department. This amount is separate from monies given by the Green School Board.
I was equally amazed and saddened by the support given to this group by our community.
We have approximately 750 athletes at the high school and 275 more at the middle school, but overall less than one third of these athletes have parents involved in Boosters through membership or volunteering.
I am challenging this community that prides itself on the quality of our student athletes, to get involved somehow with this exceptional group of people. Check with your athlete's coach or go online to www.bulldogfans.com and see what a difference you can make.
