Hartville, Ohio -

Lake Township resident and township trustee candidate, Jerry Machamer was killed in a car accident March 30.

According to Stark County Sheriff Timothy Swanson, the accident occurred at 1:40 a.m. Sunday. on Werner Church Road NE, south of Knollridge St. in Plain Township.

The sheriff’s preliminary investigation stated Machamer, 43, was operating a 1992 Black Lexus ES300 south on Werner Church Road when he traveled off the right side of the road. He crossed over and went off the left side of the road. Machamer struck an embankment and the vehicle became airborne. The vehicle then struck another embankment on the south side of the driveway at 3174 Werner Church Road. After the vehicle struck the second embankment, it rolled over, striking a tree. The car came to rest on its wheels on the south side of the road.

Swanson said the preliminary investigation suggested Machamer was traveling at an “excessive speed” and that alcohol may have been a factor, although toxicology reports are not concluded.

Machamer was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. He was transported to the Stark County Morgue.

Machamer leaves a wife, Amy, and two children, Jillian and Jeremy.ͪ
