Green, Ohio -

When Mrs. Jones returned home from a local rehabilitation facility, she was not sure where to turn. She desired a quality of life that would allow her to remain in her home as long as possible. At 78 years old and in poor health, she needed help bathing, dressing, meal preparation and getting groceries. She had family, however, they lived out of state. She had no place to turn.

It was then that Mrs. Jones decided to call the Area Agency on Aging (AAA).  The AAA was able to provide a program that she could afford and would allow her to live independently in her home as opposed to a nursing home.

The Area Agency on Aging could be just one of the best-kept secrets around. The agency has served the Greater Akron-Canton Area since 1974. AAA has helped older adults in Portage, Stark, Summit and Wayne Counties achieve and maintain the highest quality of life. It provides a wide range of effective programs, services and resources from its Green office, located at 1550 Corporate Woods Parkway.

Its mission is to provide older adults and their caregivers with long term care choices, consumer protection and education to achieve the highest possible quality of life.
It is through the PASSPORT Home Care Program that Mrs. Jones now receives a home health care aide to assist her with her personal care needs and to help with housekeeping chores. She has an emergency response unit so she can easily access medical services. Her meals are delivered daily and a care manager visits Mrs. Jones routinely to help manage all of her services and ensure that her needs are being met.

Mrs. Jones is one of more than 3,000 older adults on the PASSPORT program today. PASSPORT is just one of the many services the AAA has to offer.
If you are a caregiver looking for an answer to some of your caregiving problems or someone like Mrs. Jones that just needs some help with long-term care issues, the Area Agency on Aging can be the solution to your needs while maintaining your independence and dignity.
