Panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt are on display at Stark State College in recognition of World AIDS Day, which is Dec. 1.
The free exhibit, located in the Business and Entrepreneurial Studies building at 6200 Frank Ave. N.W.will be open to the public daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
The internationally celebrated quilt began in San Francisco more than 20 years ago with a single 3- by 6-foot panel and today is a tapestry of more than 47,000 panels.
The quilt, nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, is a 54-ton tapestry memorializing more than 92,000 individuals lost to AIDS. Arrangements to have the quilt at Stark State were made by the SSC Multicultural Affairs Office and the NAMES Project of Atlanta.
