The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Northeast Ohio, including Summit and Stark counties.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning from noon to 9 p.m. today with today’s high temperature forecast to reach 98 degrees.

High temperatures will be in the 90-100 range for many locations, with heat index values exceeding 100 degrees. Air quality will also be an issue for affected areas.

The warning advises residents that prolonged exposure to the sun could result in illnesses such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Residents are being warned to limit their exposure to the sun as hot temperatures and high humidity are expected to create heat indices between 100 and 104 degrees.

The elderly and the young are particularly susceptible to the heat. Strenuous activities should be limited to the early morning or evening. Those who must be outside should wear light weight or loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.

According to AccuWeather.com, a cool front is expected to cross the area on Wednesday, dropping daily high temperatures into the mid-to-upper 80s for the remainder of the week.
