KEY ACTION Lakemore Village Council passed an ordinance amending the previous ordinance for the duties of the zoning inspector.
“It is necessary for us to have a zoning inspector for matters that deal with nuisance abatement,” said Mayor Rick Justice.
Stated in the ordinance, the Board of Nuisance Abatement will be composed of the mayor, council president and the zoning inspector.
Justice noted that in 2009 the county had offered to take over some building departments.
“We had cut staff and decided to try to go with the county for those services. The jury is still out on if that was a good move or not,” he said.
The position needed to be filled as currently there are 15 nuisance violations on Justice's desk.
“We need to get a building inspector involved in these,” he said.
The move transfers the authority of building inspector to the zoning inspector.
“The county backs us up on that,” Justice said. “They (the county) would do some of the inspections, but they would charge us and not do as many as we needed.”
He said they are ready to make the move and plug in a zoning inspector into the position. “We have a lot of nuisance abatement that is sitting out there waiting.”

Council approved a resolution to extend the contract with Republic Waste Services at a cost of $11.89 per month per household beginning Aug. 1 through July 31, 2013.
“Our contract with Republic was up quite some time ago,” Justice said. “We had several companies bid on this, Republic is the cheapest and they have been doing a good job for us so we decided to continue with their service.”
There are options for residents to sign up for recycling.
The village has recycling bins available for residents that need one or need to replace one.
Councilman Troy Bradfield said after seeing all the services that are offered Republic seemed to fit the village needs the most.

Officials urged residents to follow tweets from the village from their smart phone type in 40404 and then follow at Lakemore Ohio. Users will automatically receive the tweets from the village.
Councilman Tom Wolfe said he and Justice will be meeting with Government Services to make sure things get covered while Fiscal Officer Rick Quay is out on medical leave.
“He is doing better and anxious to get back to work,” said Wolfe.
John Hilary member of the trustees for Brittany Point attached home association thanked council members for getting a street light put up at the cornor of Sanitarium and Brittany Boulevard. “It was dark and dangerous for many reasons,” he said.
Justice said it is a big improvement and it was a safety issue. “We are meeting with our engineers on a sinking spot in that area as well,” he said.
Councilwoman Lorrie Strittmatter thanked Roy Decker for donating booklets from the past boat regattas to the historical society.
“There are a lot of cool things in here. Things I remember as a child,” Strittmatter said.
Council decided to take August regular meetings off. If something comes up they will announce meetings.
