Barry Stayer, who has been deputy director for Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority, was named interim director.
SMHA’s executive director, Michael Williams, is retiring effective Monday. Williams has been the housing authority executive director since 2009. The housing authority’s five-member board of directors is reviewing candidates for the executive director’s job.
“I am not sure where they are in the process,” Stayer said. “They have got some good candidates.”
A graduate of the University of Akron, Stayer was hired at SMHA in 2003 as assistant director of finance. He eventually became SMHA’s finance director, and subsequently the agency’s deputy director.
