The United Way of Summit County’s annual Knight Breakfast will be held on Aug. 8 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Quaker Station in Downtown Akron, located at 135 S. Broadway Street.
Guest speaker for the event will be Anthony J. Alexander, President and Chief Executive Officer for FirstEnergy Corp.
Alexander began his career in 1972 in the Tax Department of Ohio Edison. He joined Ohio Edison’s Legal Department as an attorney in 1976, was named senior attorney in 1984, and promoted to associate general counsel in 1987. Tony was elected vice president and general counsel in 1989; senior vice president and general counsel in 1991; and executive vice president and general counsel in 1996. In 1997 Tony was elected executive vice president and general counsel of FirstEnergy and elected president in 2000. He was elected president and chief operating officer in 2001 and to his current position in January 2004. He is a board member of Akron Tomorrow and a member at-large of Team NEO. A native of Akron, Alexander lives in Akron with his wife Becky.
The Knight Breakfast was established in 1954 by John S. Knight as a way for local corporate leaders to gather and preview the upcoming United Way campaign.
Bob Kulinski, President of United Way of Summit County, said, “Tony Alexander is the latest in the long line of FirstEnergy Corp CEOs who understand the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility. FirstEnergy and its predecessor Ohio Edison have long been supporters of United Way of Summit County and their executives have assumed leadership roles with our agency and other not-for-profits in our community. We are honored to have Tony Alexander as our Knight Breakfast Keynote speaker.”
Tickets for the breakfast are $30 per person or a table for 8 can be purchased for $250. To make reservations for the event online visit http://knightbreakfast2012.eventbrite.com/ , or contact Andi at United Way at (330) 643-5502 or via email at areed@uwsummit.org by Aug. 4.
