Trustees for the Stark County District Library have selected three finalists to lead the library system, including the current deputy director of the Akron-Summit County Public Library.

The Board of Trustees will meet in a special meeting, including an executive session at 8:30 a.m. Friday in the Main Library Board Room to interview the final three candidates for the open position of Executive Director of the Library.

The final three candidates are:
Pamela Hickson-Stevenson, currently deputy director of the Akron-Summit County Public Library. Prior to coming to Akron, she was director at Portage County District Library, Wayne County Public Library, and Wadsworth Public Library. She also is Adjunct Faculty, School of Library and Information Science, Kent State University. Hisckson-Stevenson has been actively involved in strategic planning initiatives, mentoring colleagues moving into leadership positions, and representing the library in the community. In addition to civic activities, she is active with state and national professional associations.

C. Allen Nichols, currently director of the Wadsworth Public Library.  He also is adjunct faculty, School of Library and Information Science, Kent State University. Before his directorship, Nichols’s focus was serving young adults and he continued to do so through several positions including Regional Young Adult Services Manager, Cuyahoga County Public Library.  He continues to be a library advocate through his professional and civic commitments.

Tena Wilson, currently director of the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District, Winnetka, Ill. Prior to her directorship, her positions included public services team manager, marketing & communications  administrator and branch manager, Cleveland Public Library, and library associate, Young Adult Programmer, Stark County District Library. Wilson’s work in libraries include building a successful team of library managers in an urban environment and directing marketing and communications operations in a large urban public library.

The three candidates will be in Canton Thursday and Friday to tour library facilities, meet with members of the staff and community representatives and interview with the Board of Trustees.

“Bradbury Associates/Gossage Sager Associates conducted a national search and assembled a terrific group of candidates for the library’s Executive Director position,” said Steven Pittman, president of the Board of Trustees. “Of the 32 possible candidates from libraries in 14 states, seven candidates were selected as semi-finalists.”

Pittman said the board has selected three of the seven to come in for interviews.

“The board will make its decision based upon our candidates’ time in Stark County,” he said. “Because the Library does not have a human resources professional at this time, the assistance of Jobeth and Dan Bradbury in this search process has been invaluable.”

Following the final interviews, the board will provide Bradbury Associates/Gossage Sager Associates with an offer, which will be presented to the selected candidate. After final negotiations and a background check are complete the trustees will meet to adopt a resolution to hire the new executive eirector.
