Drives across Ohio drivers can expect to pay a little bit more at the pump this week.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.45 in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express. That’s up 9 cents from a week ago.

A year ago, the average was $3.70.

Nationally, the average price for regular gas is about $3.47, about 7 cents higher than last week.
According to analysts, the higher prices are mostly due to rising crude oil prices, spurred upward by better-than-expected global economic concerns and simmering tensions in the Middle East.

U.S. oil supplies swelled in June to 22-year highs but have declined since then.

Including the change in gas prices in Akron during the past week, prices yesterday were 22.7 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 2.0 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, according to GasBuddy.com.

The national average has increased 2.4 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 20.1 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.

"Gasoline prices continue to rise across much of the nation, which is precisely what we had forecast earlier this year, so it does not come as much of a shock," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Either way, I don't expect the national average to break out of its mid-$3/gal rut until mid-to-late September, then we may get some action to the downside."
