Acting on an anonymous tip, the Ohio Highway Patrol has recovered a vehicle that may have been involved in a hit-and-run accident that claimed a Springfield Township teen earlier this week.
According to the patrol, the vehicle was found in Portage County. Forensic investigators will work to confirm that the vehicle was involved in the crash.
As of Friday, the driver’s identity remained a mystery to authorities.
The crash claimed the life of Anthony Weakland, 16, who died from blunt force trauma to the head.
According to the patrol, Weakland and a friend were walking east along the shoulder of Albrecht Avenue in Springfield Township when he was hit from behind.
Weakland was a student at Springfield High School, where he was getting ready to start his sophomore year.
A memorial fund has been set up for Weakland. Donations can be made at any First Merit Bank.
