A North Canton man involved in a Copley burglary and multi-county police chase has been sentenced to seven years and nine months in jail for his crimes.
Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced Wednesday that Judge Lynne Callahan sentenced David A. Williams, Jr., 31, of Werstler Ave. NW in North Canton, to the prison term and suspended Williams’ license for four years.
On March 1, Williams broke into a home on Paxton Road in Copley. A 23-year-old female was home alone while Williams ransacked the residence.
The woman called 911 as she watched him load his car with her belongings.
Copley Detective Joe Krunich arrived at the home while the defendant’s vehicle was still in the driveway with Williams in the driver’s seat.
When Krunich ordered Williams out of the car, Williams drove toward the officer, nearly hitting him. Williams then drove away at a high speed, refusing to stop.
Officers from Bath, Copley, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol all attempted to stop Williams.
Williams eventually crashed his car and had to be cut out by the Sharon Township Fire Department.
Inside the car were a 42-inch TV and three computers, all belonging to the victim.
On May 30, Williams pled guilty to burglary, a felony of the second degree; assault on a police officer, a felony of the fourth degree; and failure to comply, a felony of the third degree.
