WEDNESDAY MEETING

KEY ACTION
Hired Stanley Miller Construction of East Sparta for $2 million to replace the 55th Street NE bridge in Plain Township.

DISCUSSION  The project will replace a one-lane temporary bridge that was erected over the Nimishillen Creek after the original bridge from 1955 was severely damaged during a flood in 2011. It also will replace a Canton waterline that also had been damaged. State and federal grants will pay for the project.

OTHER ACTION

• Approved the annexation of Nick’s Body Shop at 1400 Edison St. NE from Lake Township to Hartville. Assistant Stark County Prosecutor Deborah Dawson said since township and village officials already had signed an annexation agreement, commissioners had no discretion but to approve the land transfer under state law. Under the agreement, the township and village will split the taxes generated by the property equally for 10 years.

• Authorized the Stark County sanitary engineer to cooperate with the Ohio Department of Transportation by replacing roughly 220-feet of sewer lines and manholes to eliminate a conflict with the installation of a new culvert by the state. The county’s sewer revenue fund will pay for the project.

• Purchased a 2013 Vactor Manufacturing sewer-cleaner vehicle for the county sanitary engineering department at $379,016 from Jack Doheny Supplies of Twinsburg. The purchase, which will be paid by sewer revenue funds, included the trade in of the county’s 1999 Vactor, worth $20,000.

UP NEXT Meet at 10 a.m. Monday for a work session on the second floor of the Stark County Office Building at 110 Central Plaza S. in Canton.
