Several area counties, including Stark, will fall under a winter storm advisory Tuesday afternoon as a significant snowfall is forecast.
A winter storm is approaching from the Plain states to the west. The National Weather Service is placing Stark, Carroll, Wayne, Tuscarawas, Holmes and Columbiana counties under a winter storm advisory.
“That means generally three to five inches of snow is expected in a 24-hour period,” said meteorologist Frank Keiltyka of the regional National Weather Service bureau. “The real snow is expected Tuesday night.”
And after the snow has settled, temperatures may not rise enough for the quick meltdown, according to the forecast.
“It will be around until the weekend,” Keiltyka said.
Heavy snowfalls call for public road workers to make driving less hazardous.
“We will be out probably (Tuesday) before the snow falls to do some pre-treating,” said Justin Chesnic, public relations officer for the Ohio Department of Transportation. “We will be out there full-force. The pre-treating is spreading of materials (salt) on the road.”
Likewise, Stark County’s road workers will be on-call today.
“We will make a decision probably middle afternoon whether we will keep half our guys on,” Stark County Engineer Keith Bennett said.
Possibly, the county engineer crew might depart about midnight Tuesday and others return before sunrise Wednesday to clear roads for the morning rush-hour traffic.
“A lot of times we won’t run all night unless it is really coming down,” Bennett said.
