A man who robbed eight banks, including three in Stark County, was sentenced Monday in federal court to more than 12 years in prison.

Benjamin G. Gates, of Canton, previously pleaded guilty to six bank robberies in Ohio and two in Pennsylvania.

At a hearing in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, Judge James Gwin sentenced Gates to 151 months in prison.

According to his indictment, Gates robbed Huntington Bank inside the Giant Eagle at 608 Raff Road SW in Canton; U.S. Bank inside Fishers Foods at 4403 Cleveland Ave. NW in Plain Township; and Huntington Bank inside Giant Eagle at 1955 E. Maple St. in North Canton.
