Tuesday meeting
KEY ACTION Council unanimously passed the proposed Table for Life limited liability company purchase of the Belden Lodge from the city at a cost of $600,000. Table for Life will convert the lodge into a gourmet restaurant and winery.
DISCUSSION Reaction to the news of the facility has generated a lot of positive feedback, but council member John “Skip” Summerville did address one resident’s concern regarding the project. “This wasn’t a fast process at all. The discussion as to what to do with the property has been going on since its purchase. It’s currently been costing the city money to have it sit and maintain it. This is an opportunity to not only sell it but to have revenue generated in the city. And it will bring a real first-class asset to the city in terms of an upscale restaurant and winery.”
The purchase includes the 14,000-square-foot, 3-story building on approximately nine acres. A 600-square-foot concierge building will be located at the front of the site for pickup orders. And a separate 800-square-foot culinary program building is in the future planning. The site will have driveway access from Massillon Road.
Part of the purchase agreement is that the city of Green carry the 20-year mortgage on the property at a rate of 3.25 percent.
OTHER ACTION
• Discussed the 2013 capital appropriations projects. The approximate total cost of the projects is $17 million with $5 million of that total going toward the extension of the CAK International Business Park III/Port Green. And many planned resurfacing road projects for this year are included.
• Passed a resolution for the city to enter into contract agreements with several engineering firms for road and storm water projects for this year. Council member Gerard Neugebauer recused himself from the discussion and abstained from the vote as his full-time employer is with a local engineering firm.
• Council, Mayor Dick Norton and Human Resources Manager Jeanne Greco went into a closed-door session to discuss a personnel matter. No action was taken following the session.
