Stark County commissioners have approved a three-year labor agreement with the General Truck Drivers & Helpers Union, Local 92, which represents the county’s two garage workers. Stark County commissioners have approved a new union contract with the county’s two garage employees that provides yearly raises and requires the employees to pay more for their health insurance.

The three-year agreement that began Jan. 1 with the General Truck Drivers & Helpers Union, Local 92, grants 2 percent raises in each year of the agreement. In 2012, the county’s mechanic earned a yearly base salary of $31,179 a year and the county’s equipment operator earned $23,504 a year.

The employees, who contributed 7 percent toward their health insurance in 2012, will pay 10 percent this year, 11 percent in 2014 and 13 percent in 2015. The increase brings the union’s contributions up to the same rate that commissioners set for nonunion employees.

At 10 percent, employees pay $47.50 a month for single coverage and $121.50 a month for family coverage.
