A head-on collision that killed two people Sunday night also sent three others to local hospitals.

The crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. in the 2800 block of Woodlawn Avenue NW. Witnesses said a northbound 2003 Saturn ION crossed a double-yellow line, into the southbound lane, passed a vehicle, then returned to the northbound lane.

However, the ION then went off the right side of the road. When the driver, 20-year-old Jacob Posey, tried to steer back on to the road, he over-corrected, said Jackson Township Police Lt. Ty Bissler.

The ION wound up in the southbound lane, but traveling north, where it crashed into a 2011 Toyota Camry driven by Terry Metz, 52, of Jackson Township. Both drivers were killed.

Vicky Metz, 60, wife of Terry Metz, was a passenger in his car. She remained in Mercy Medical Center’s intensive care unit with non-life-threatening injuries, Bissler said.

Two girls — ages 16 and 17 — were in Posey’s car. The younger girl was thrown through the windshield. Both were treated at a hospital and released, Bissler said.

The crash remains under investigation, as police await toxicology results on Posey.
