TUESDAY MEETING
Key action: Approved appropriations for the budget of the 2012-13 school year.
Discussion Treasurer Linda Paris said the appropriation for all funds was about $62 million. The appropriation for the general fund about $47 million, which does not include debt services, permanent improvement funds, state and federal funds and other funds. Revenue is expected to be $65 million for the general fund and $84 million for all funds. Paris said there will be a decrease in outlay, because last year had one extra pay, and because high-seniority teachers left and lower-paid teachers were hired.
Other action
- Heard from Jackson Township Trustee Todd Hawke on the need for passage of the township’s parks and road levy, which would produce about $2.9 million to help offset the loss of $3.29 million in state funding. The 2.2-mill, 5-year levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $67 per year, according to the Stark County Auditor’s Office. Defeat of the levy would leave the park system with none of its $1 million funding per year and would handicap the road department in snow plowing, salt for winter road and patching and maintaining roads, Hawke said.
- Heard updates on the Third Grade Reading Guarantee, which would hold back — with some exemptions — third-graders who do not pass state reading tests.
- Heard an update on district report cards from Superintendent Chris DiLoretto. The district will get a report on state tests soon, but official results will be held up because of investigations into some district —none local — that may have fudged attendance records to help their ratings.
