Izzy Michaels, frontman for Odyssey, showed up for his band’s Repository photo shoot in head-to-toe Jim Morrison garb, with a Steven Tyler-esque scarf thrown in.

“The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith are the biggest band influences on me,” he says. “Steven Tyler is a phenomenal showman.

“When we’re onstage, I encourage the guys to feel the music,” Michaels adds. “I try to be the antenna.”

Odyssey has played one show to date, at a venue called Earth Night Club in Cleveland’s Flats.

“We were the only rock ’n’ roll band there,” recalls guitarist Cody Gephart. “Everything else was rap.”

Michaels, Gephart and drummer Alex Baxter have gained performing experience through the regular rock concerts presented locally by Chris Wintrip Guitar Academy. “Chris teaches us how to perform onstage and play with a band,” Baxter says.

Asked to name their favorite bands, the guys toss out a wide range of names: Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Black Flag, Misfits, Rush, Pink Floyd, Beatles.

“”We came together as a band with all these different influences,” Michaels says. “When we write music, we’re always open to everyone’s suggestions.”
