KEY ACTION Approved the layoff of three township employees, two from the parks department and one from maintenance, and moving another parks employee into a lower salaried position for a savings of $275,000 a year.
“This is not something we are happy to do, but for the financial picture of the township, it had to be done,” said James Walters, president of the board of trustees.
OTHER ACTION
• Heard that John Pizzino, vice president of the board of trustees, and Jackson Township Police Chief Zink have worked out funding to provide two part-time police officers to increase the security presence at Jackson Local Schools.
Pizzino said he and Zink have been working for the past two years with Jackson Local Schools Superintendent Chris DiLoreto and Assistant Superintendent Barry Mason to find a way to fund more security for the district. Pizzino said the school district is supplementing funding for the additional security.
“The officers will be housed at the Jackson Memorial Middle School and can respond to any of the schools,” Zink said.
“It will allow us to have a security presence during school hours that we did not have before. This is in addition to the regular patrols that have been going into the schools,” he said.
• Approved a mutual agreement for Technical Assistance with the Stark Soil and Water Conservation District to perform post-construction storm water quality checks.
• Approved a Community Celebration agreement for staging, sound and lighting for $5,000 for the Community Celebration event June 26-29.
• Approved a Jail Transportation agreement with Massillon Police Department for $55,000 for the year. Chief Zink said the amount is several thousand dollars less than was originally budgeted.
• Accepted sponsorship donations for the Community Celebration as follows: $500 form Buehler’s Fresh Foods and BellStores and $2,500 from Massillon Cable TV, Inc.
