While a major winter storm blasts the northeastern United States, Stark County can expect “rain and snow, becoming all snow after noon,” according to the National Weather Service’s Cleveland office.

The temperature had already hit a high of 39 degrees Friday morning and by 9 a.m., winds were out of the southwest at 16 mph and the wind chill was listed at 30 degrees, according to the service’s website. The accumulation of snow during the day was listed at less than an inch.

The weather service was calling for an 80 percent chance of a rain/snow mix during the day to become a 30 percent chance of snow with a low temperature of 16 degrees.

The temperature was expected to rise to 27 degrees Saturday and to 41 on Sunday, both under sunny skies.

The New York and Boston afternoon and evening flights from the Akron Canton Airport have been canceled, according to the airport website at 9 a.m. The 7:35 a.m. flight to Philadelphia was still listed as “delayed.”
