A man will spend five years in prison after a jury convicted him of recklessly driving his vehicle into a Jackson Township house during an argument with his wife.
The Stark County Common Pleas jury took only 30 minutes Wednesday morning to convict James M. Allen of the two charges he faced, vehicular assault and endangering children.
On June 16, Allen was driving in the 9400 block of Portage Street NW when he began intentionally swerving the vehicle, causing it to ram a home, according to court records filed in the case. His wife suffered a broken arm. Their two children were also in the car.
Allen, 32, of Barberton, admitted drinking alcohol and using marijuana earlier and was arguing with his wife during the drive, said Jennifer Dave, assistant Stark County prosecutor.
Allen said he was going to “take us all out” as he swerved on the road, she said. At the time, Allen’s driver’s license had been suspended.
Stark County Common Pleas Judge Taryn Heath sentenced Allen to the maximum term of five years.
